Comment from Erin Reed on 2020-09-08 14:40:29: I just had an experience with the landlord of Sewell Landing Apartments. When I was filling out the application, I called to ask a question about what to write down about the previous landlords for the past five years. The reason I had a question was because I had spent the last four years living with family and the fifth year would have been with a previous landlord, that I had, had personal issues with but had lived in there house for a period of almost threes. When I asked April Hicks who is the landlord there now what I should put down, she stated, "Just write down that you have lived At your current address since 2014, so I won't have to do a landlord check." So after her telling to do so, that is what I did. So all of my application was fine except for in my background check it showed up that my previous landlord had filed a civil suit against me for 278, which was remaining rent that wasn't even 15 days late. This was in 2016. I then in 2017 had my wages garnished for this amount plus a court cost. Therefore I guess it was considered an eviction. So after Mrs Hicks supervisor had found this in my background she then called me and told me and told me she couldn't help me and she told me what she had found and I explained to her that I could probably get a paper stating that this had been taken care of. She then told me that since I had stated I had been at my current residence since 2014, which she knew was false, that it would cause a red flag to bring something in. Now, i personally think that I should still be able to validate that I have taken care of this and maybe even resubmit an application. I would have never wrote down that I had been with family for the last five years had she not told me to do so. And that is one of the only housing that is near my children's school that I can walk to places without having a car. I really needed to be out of the place I am staying. I just feel like she was wrong to tell me that and I a, the only one that is suffering. Is this something other landlords do, tell applicants to provide false info? I don't even normally like to complain, but I am so upset and devastated about not being able to prove that something in my background is wrong because it would look like I was lying, when in fact I told her the truth and she told me to lie. Thanks for your time. I would like to have a response back if at all possible. Thank you, Erin Reed
