Details: Harvest Homes, a 24-hour staffed facility, is an important addition to the continuum of care for individuals with mental illness. It bridges the gap between living independently in one’s own apartment and group home living. Harvest Homes is a HUD 811 PRAC (project rental assistance contract) which is like a project-based voucher where the voucher remains with the property. Harvest Homes property, maintenance and waiting list is managed by Housing. Housing assistance is available to eligible tenants. Harvest Home’s was opened in 1997 and became one of the first permanent supportive housing choices for adults with serious mental illness in Grand Forks. It consists of twelve one-bedroom apartments, where one unit is ADA accessible. All bedrooms along with a commons kitchen and living area are located on the ground floor, where meals and socialization are easily shared. A commons laundry room provides two washers and two dryers, all coin-operated. A van is available for transportation needs and bus training is provided and public transportation is encouraged. Limited storage units are located in the basement. Supportive services are provided through partnership with Northeast Human Service Center, which includes Case Management, while Prairie Harvest Mental Health provides nursing and medication monitoring, activities of daily living, employment support and groups. Harvest Homes is suited for individuals who desire independent living in their own apartment but prefer or require the support of 24-hour staffing. All apartments consist of a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Tenants need a moderate amount of skills ranging from cleaning and cooking to washing dishes and laundry. Staff support includes prompting, instruction, training and hands on direction. Applicants with limited mobility can navigate this property. The one ADA accessible apartment is suited to those individuals with some physical limitations, i.e. cane, walker, wheel chair
